On board the 'tjalk' Boreas focus is on feeling at home and on socializing. But the Boreas is also the right vessel for active and competitive sailing. Much is possible, nothing is fixed: The ultimate holiday feeling!
The Boreas sails mainly on the Wadden Sea but on request, also on the Frisian lakes and the IJsselmeer. During the high season we try to sail more to the East of the Wadden Sea, where it is peaceful and quiet and we can beach the ship on the Wad. This is truly a unique experience. The sky is close and sometimes, the Northern Lights can be seen. We then gatther mussles or clams, or have a barbecue on a sandbank. Visiting the beautiful Islands of the Wadden Sea is also a great experience!
The Boreas is ideal for a weekend or week away with family or friends. Companies or associations also regularly stay at the Boreas. Grietje, the skipper's wife, has worked in counseling for many years and knows well how to get along with groups. Henk, the skipper has been sailing his whole life. He knows the Wadden Sea inside-out and if you want to learn something about sailing or tides he is the skipper to ask.
The Boreas was built in 1897 on a Groninger ship-yard. The ship is called a flat-bottom and it sailed mainly between Denmark and Sweden. The Boreas is suitable for a stay of 16 people. The home harbour of the Boreas is Harlingen. In the winter, the Boreas is in Amsterdam where we rent out the ship as a hotel!
We hope to see you at the Boreas to welcome you for a pleasant and memorable sailing holiday!
