Welcome Aboard the Welvaart – a Classic Sailing Ship with Comfort and Character
The Welvaart is a 32-meter-long, luxurious two-masted clipper built in 1906, featuring a rich history and modern amenities. The ship offers 20 comfortable berths for multi-day trips and welcomes up to 35 guests for day sails.
Thanks to the deep, sheltered cockpit on deck, the wide gangways, and the high railing, the Welvaart provides a safe and comfortable sailing experience for everyone on board.
A Ship with a Story
Since 2010, Chris and Grete Prins have been the proud owners of the Welvaart. Chris purchased the ship after many years of experience as a skipper on various traditional sailing vessels. Grete started as a deckhand on board and fell not only for the ship, but also for its captain.
Today, Grete manages the organization and coordination from ashore, but whenever possible, she enjoys sailing along – often joined by their three children: Lea Heleen, Jip, and Abe.
In 2016, the Welvaart joined the fleet of Holland Sail, sailing in good company – Chris’s brother Sebastiaan is also part of the fleet with his ship Fortuna. In 2018, Chris and Grete further expanded their own fleet with the purchase of the Radboud, an impressive and luxurious three-masted clipper. This expansion reflects their growing passion for sailing and their ambition to offer guests a wide range of nautical experiences.
