Service, quality and safety

Safety and quality - Service, quality and safety

The Holland Sail fleet consists of well-maintained, certified quality ships with experienced skippers who know every trick of the trade. For them, safety and maintenance are the highest priority. Together, we take every possible measure to continuously improve our service and quality.

Safety and Responsibility

Care and attention to the safety of our guests and crew are fundamental principles at Holland Sail. All members have an up-to-date risk assessment (RI&E), follow the industry standard “Branchenorm Rondhout” and keep transparent records of their planned maintenance. CBB and rigging certificates are submitted to the Holland Sail office and are available on the website. Holland Sail is a collective member of the BBZ and follows the DPV training programme for passenger shipping.

Safety is a recurring topic at our General Meetings. We work with a multi-year safety policy in which various topics are addressed, developed and discussed step by step. Dialogue is at the heart of this approach: we believe that open communication with one another is more important than trying to capture everything in protocols and regulations. At the same time, as a cooperative, we aim to take a leading role within the industry and actively communicate this commitment.

Topics that have already been discussed and addressed include policies on alcohol and drugs for both skippers and guests, noise disturbance in harbours, the wearing of life jackets, safety procedures for the gangway, and the safety briefing given to guests when they come aboard. Crisis communication, training requirements for crew members and peer reviews are also on the agenda.

The skipper has ultimate responsibility for safety on board.

Here you can find a list of the agreements made and topics discussed.

Certifications

To set sail, all ships must hold various safety certificates. The main certificate is valid for five years. The mast and rigging certificate is valid for 2.5 years.

Both certifications are issued by the Dutch Human Environment and Transport Inspectorate (ILT) and are only renewed after a thorough inspection by a certified testing authority.

Going the Extra Mile

Where regulations end, Holland Sail goes the extra mile, with our safety strategy  which includes more than just certificates and proof of insurance. It also requires crew qualifications, fire safety training, and first aid knowledge. We continuously invest in training, maintenance, and communication to ensure the highest level of safety.

When you sail with Holland Sail, you can do so with complete confidence.
