Joska Moen – Skipper of the Poolster

Joska Moen (Poolster) - Joska Moen – Skipper of the Poolster

Raised on deck, grown up with the wind.

Some people are born to sail – Joska quite literally was. From his second day of life, he was already on board, and he’s basically never left since. When he was three, his parents bought the Poolster and began an extensive renovation. While the ship was taking shape, Joska was growing up alongside it.

“I knew early on: one day I want to be a skipper myself.”

Today, that childhood dream is reality. For Joska, being a skipper is the most beautiful job there is: being outside, feeling free, always working with people – and most of all, sailing together. “You have to do it as a team. That’s what makes it so special.”

On the Poolster, you feel at home right away

What characterizes Joska? He doesn’t pretend. He’s simply himself – and that’s contagious. Guests immediately feel welcome and at ease.
“I believe that when you feel good on board, you naturally become curious about the ship and the sailing. And that’s when the real adventure begins.”

That adventure can go in any direction

Maybe it’s a trip to his favorite island, Terschelling. Or a day of sailing where everyone works together to keep the ship moving. “The best moment? When you see people truly getting interested. That’s when something special happens.”

A ship full of stories – and room for more

After all these years, there’s no shortage of stories: wonderful moments, memorable encounters. But as Joska likes to put it,
“There are too many stories to tell. You just have to come aboard and create your own.”

What does he hope guests take home after a trip on the Poolster? “Special memories – of the ship, the sailing, the surroundings, and of us.”

Sounds like something for you? Step aboard – and experience it for yourself!
