Kars Petri – Skipper of the Kleine Jager & Grote Jager

Kars Petri (Kleine Jager) - Kars Petri – Skipper of the Kleine Jager & Grote Jager

From office desk to compass – a life turned around.

Some people become skippers because it runs in the family. For Kars, the path was different. At 17, he earned some extra money working as a deckhand on a historic sailing ship. His first experience with sailing immediately felt right, but life initially took him elsewhere. After finishing his studies, he spent four and a half years working in an office in Amsterdam. Until something started to itch.
“That’s when I decided to change course – and chose a new career as a skipper.”

So Kars made a decision: he quit his office job and set off on a new adventure. Not behind a desk, but on deck – with the wind in his sails and the horizon as his guide.

The Kleine Jager – cosy and authentic

Kars’s ship, the Kleine Jager, is warm, inviting, and lovingly designed down to the smallest detail. She’s in beautiful condition and full of authentic charm – compact yet comfortable. Guests immediately feel at home here and are quickly drawn into life on board.

What does Kars love most about welcoming guests? “Meeting all kinds of different people. Going on a journey together and giving them a special experience.”

The beauty of sailing? The art of letting go

What makes sailing so special to Kars is the unique combination of adventure, nature, and peace. You literally step out of everyday life. The wind sets the rhythm, not the clock. “It’s about finding calm – being in a completely different world than most people’s daily one.”

His favourite destination? Schiermonnikoog. “A tricky place to reach, hidden behind treacherous sandbanks. But the reward is huge: an idyllic tidal harbour and a beautifully quiet island.”

Travelling together, creating memories together

For Kars, happiness lies in the many special moments along the way. Every group is different, every trip unique. “I always meet new people. And together we make a journey – sometimes literally, sometimes figuratively.”

What he wishes for his guests? That they go home relaxed, with wonderful stories and memories they can’t stop talking about – and the feeling: I want to experience this again.

Does that sound like something for you? Then come aboard – and experience it for yourself!
